GLENWOOD CANYON BIKES
BIKING FAQs
Our address in downtown Glenwood Springs, CO is 152 W 6th Street. We are situated in between the Rio Grande Trail and The Glenwood Canyon Recreation / Bike Trail. Visitors can also find Canyon Bikes, Blue Sky Rafting, and Colorado Overlander at the same address.
The operating hours of Glenwood Canyon Bikes may vary depending on the weather conditions. The store typically opens in late April or early May and closes in mid-October. Please contact us for the current operating hours.
Glenwood Canyon Bikes offers a scheduled shuttle service via van to the Bair Ranch Rest Area at the east end of Glenwood Canyon, allowing bikers to experience the canyon’s scenic views and follow the Colorado River downstream.
The schedule for our shuttle service may vary by season and demand. Please contact us at 970-945-8904 or visit us online for the current schedule.
The shuttle service allows you to experience the beauty of the Glenwood Canyon from Bair Ranch to Glenwood Springs one-way, eliminating the need for a 28-mile round trip ride. It makes the Canyon more accessible for people of all ages and abilities, and allows you to take your time and fully enjoy the Canyon’s offerings.
We recommend making a reservation for our shuttle service. You can reserve online, by phone, or in-person at our office. Walk-ins are welcome, but we suggest reserving in advance to ensure availability and to better accommodate your specific needs or requests as our space is limited.
The distance from the trailhead in Glenwood Springs to the Dotsero trailhead at the east end of the Canyon is 16.2 miles. Our shuttle service will transport you 14 miles upstream to the Bair Ranch Rest Area, if you plan on taking the shuttle.
The trail is easy to ride on, with just one hill at the No Name rest area. It is a well-maintained, paved trail that is mostly downhill from the east end of the canyon to Glenwood Springs.
The duration of the trail ride varies depending on your speed and how much time you spend admiring the canyon, views, and the Colorado River. Typically, our riders spend 4 hours in the canyon. Including any side hikes, the average time for a return trip is 4-5 hours.
If you experience any problems during the ride, please call us on your personal cell phone and give your location and information about the issue. If possible, make your way to the nearest rest area for faster assistance. Our vans can only access the trail at the rest areas. We will send a shuttle to provide replacement equipment or pick you up.
Cell phone reception is present but limited, depending on your service provider, it seems to work best near or at the Rest Areas.
Restrooms are available at each rest area: Bair Ranch, Hanging Lake, Shoshone, Grizzly Creek, and No Name. With the exception of Shoshone, drinking water, picnic tables, and vending machines are also available.
We acquire new, top-of-the-line electronic bikes, hybrid bikes, youth bikes, full suspension mountain bikes, and road bikes from Giant every year. Our 21-24 speed bikes are easy to shift and our staff will show you how to change gears. Our demo fleet for experienced riders includes Giant’s Trance 27.5 full suspension mountain bikes, Defy Composite 2 and Anyroad 2 road bikes.”
For independent kids, we have Giant’s 20″ Revel Jr. and 24″ XTC bikes. For children who need adult assistance, we have options such as trailer bikes, and single and double children’s trailers.
The rental cost at Glenwood Canyon Bikes includes the use of a bike helmet, which is mandatory. Handlebar packs for carrying lunches or personal items and bike locks are available free of charge upon request. Souvenir bike bottles are also available for purchase in our office.
The distance from Glenwood Springs to the Hanging Lake rest area is 10.2 miles. The hike to reach Hanging Lake is 1.2 miles long, steep and with an elevation gain of about 1,000 feet. There are several spots to take a break along the way. Keep in mind, to hike to Hanging lake you will need a permit.
You may cancel up to 12 hours prior to your reservation without any penalty. Any reservation cancelled less than 12 hours before check-in time will be charged 10% of the invoice. “No shows” will be charged the full cost.
Note that our cancellation policy does not apply to Hanging Lake Hiking Permits, which are regulated by Hanging Lake Express. For information on the cancellation policy for Hanging Lake Hiking Permits, please click here.

From the moment we arrived we were warmly welcomed and were made to feel very comfortable. Cannot say enough good things about everyone we encountered, in particular Chris, who shuttled us to our drop off point… This was a highlight of our trip. Thanks guys!”
